Clarborough, St John’s

2019: installation of a new 6-rank extension organ, 2 manuals, 26 stops.

The church originally had a poor quality one manual instrument of four stops. A major church re-ordering project was planned and it was decided to have a replacement instrument. The church inspected our recently installed organ at St Wilfrid’s, Calverton and within ten minutes an order was placed. A 26-stop 6-rank extension organ has been installed on a new mezzanine floor.

A redundant Walker 4-rank extension organ was purchased and this pipework formed the basis of the instrument, together with a Gemshorn and Trumpet ranks from our stock. The restored Willis console was from stock having previously been at St Leonard’s, Wollaton, prior to its rebuild.

The whole instrument is enclosed in a swell box with shutters facing south and west. The case was made out of sections of the original organ panelling, and the dummy display pipes were recycled from the replaced Forster & Andrews organ at St Mary the Virgin, Potters Bar.
